File Manager is ou now! Still the biggest application what we've made for the hiptop platform so far. Check out this fact page to see what you can do with the powerful File Manager.

Quick Introduction

From one of File Manager's users :

FILE MANAGER FOR DUMMIES
You can:
A) Edit text (.txt & html)
Usefulness: Editing themes and text files without a PC
B) Edit / View photos (.jpg & .gif)
Usefulness: Resize images without a PC. Can view .gif (animated) images on the device through FM
C) Edit MP3 tags
Usefulness: Edit your MP3 files and relabel as needed (without a PC).
D)Use as Sound Recorder
Usefulness: It's a freakin' sound recorder! Make voice notes, capture sounds and clips for themes (again, without a PC)

Bottom-line: if you have any interest in better organizing your device without having to do it on a PC, from creating and editing themes to basic file maintenance. This app is for you. It plays nice with other apps on your device, it allows you to send screenshots directly to the memory card instead of through email, and it even lets you copy the body of email messages for editing and storage. And the hits just don't stop, because it even comes with a hidden solitaire game (aww yeah!). All in all, probably the mose useful and necessary app for the device since Time Traveler.

Hopefully this will help those people who seem to need it in Layman's terms

-Thanks Mr Verse!

The Main Screen

The main screen you have the File View, containing all your files and folders.

At the bottom of the screen you see the tabs. Each folders can be opened in a separate tabs, which allows you to copy and moves your files easily.

Some folder can be marked with a star, which means that the folder will be in your “favorites”. Those folders can be accessed quickly by using Menu + the right or left shoulder buttons

Controls

Use the trackball to navigate between folders and files on the current File View pane. To switch between tabs, just highlight the one that you want to open and press the trackball, or you can use the left and right shoulder buttons.

You can use trackball + Shift to select multiple files. Clicking on a selected file with the same button combination will unselect any files.

When you press Back will go back to the previous of the selected folder. You don't need to wait for the view to load to press back as File Manager will stop loading the files from the Mini SD Card and let you go up one folder at any time anytime you press Back.

Menus :

Open in new tab : This option will open the selected folder in a new tab

    • The recorder will automatically pause when you place or receive a call or if you use the Music Player. Note that all the system sound will be muted when recording, but they will be turned on if the recording is paused or stopped.

    • When the recorder pauses, you can simply resume your recording. The recorder will not resume by itself.

    • After you are done recording, the Recorder will prompt you to save your recording in the folder of your choice.

  • Set as favorite folder : Place the selected folder in the Favorite Folders menu so you can access it faster.

  • Attachment Handling : Use this section to tell File Manager which email attachment type you would like to save to your SD card.

  • External Applications : Some applications might conflict with File Manager's open context menu . You can choose to tell File Manager to ignore some applications in that menu.

  • Internal Viewers and Editors : File Manager can handle some file type, like text, most images or audio format compatible with your device, and some special type like .url files. You can choose to remove any of those association and File Manager will not offer you to open those files with the built in viewers anymore.

Internal Editors

File Manager has some useful editor and tools built in. Those include :

  • Text editor : You can view and edit text files stored on you Mini SD. The text editor can open file like .txt, .html or .csv. Note that if you create a new text file, and insert “.LOG” as the first word, the text editor will add the current date and time every time you open that file. You can also choose what format you would like to save your file in, to stay compatible with Windows and Mac PCs

  • Picture viewer : You can view your pictures with this utility and you can even to flip, rotate or resize most of your images.

  • ID3 tag editor : If the Media Player doesn't classify some of your MP3 to the right artist of genre, use this editor to fix that!

  • Audio preview : No need to switch back and forth between File Manager and the Media Player to listen to your music or your recording. File Manager will allow you to listen to most type of audio supported by the device.

And of course, other editors are available, like the sound recorder and the Screenshot Manager.

FAQ

Q : Can I save attachments of any kind to my SD card?

A : No, unfortunately. Only images, email bodies and text files can be saved.

Q : Does File Manager replace having an image editor or a music player?

A : No. File Manager offer only baseic convenient functions.

Q : Can I record a call?

A : No, this is not possible, both for security reasons and (mainly) hardware reasons.

Q : Why is there a seemingly random pause sometime in my recording?

A : This is due to the way that File Manager bypass the internal length limit on recording. Every effort has been made to reduce that pauses, but sometime if the Recorder can not find a natural pause in the sound (some silence, or lower-than-average sound level) it will be forced to stitch the files when a sound is being recorded. In most cases, the pause should be insignificant, but we can't guarantee that it will.

Q : Why is file manager so slow?

A : It is not :) Some folder, like the Music and DCIM holding your pictures can grow quite big, and File Manager will take longer to list all the file they contain. Grouping some files together in the same folder will make File Manager faster, and will still be recognized by the device applications.

Q : Why does File Manager has so many artificial limitation regarding what can be sent or received?

A : This was the only way to prevent abusive data transfers and at the same time offer file management functions on the device.
